APPLYING FOR A VIRGINIA ID CARD

1. Locate the Department of Motor Vehicles nearest you, as you will have to apply for the ID card in person. You cannot apply online.
2. Complete the Driver License Identification Card form and Voter Registration Form.
3. Bring proper identification. You will be asked to present two pieces of primary identification and one piece of secondary identification.
4. You must also provide proof of your social security number (SSN). If you have never been issued a SSN, you may be required to obtain one, or else sign a Statement of Not Eligible for Social Security Number form.
5. Provide proof of Virginia residence.
6. Pay the ID card application fee, currently $10.00, by cash, money order, check or credit card.
7. You must also surrender any valid driver license or instruction permit issued by the state of Virginia or any other jurisdiction.
